Richard Cross - Clinical Director at Change For Good

I have worked in therapeutic environments since 1991 and have been qualified as a UKCP registered Psychotherapist since 2002 and subsequently also registered with UKCP as a Child Psychotherapist.

Since 1991 I have been at the forefront to deliver the most effective therapeutic 'programs' :

  • Helped develop and pilot the first therapeutic program for young people with sexual behaviour problems for the Scottish Prison Service (1998)
  • Developed the 'Advanced Equip Program' for young people who had Severe Conduct Disorder for the New Zealand Corrections Department (2002)
  • Implemented the first Trauma Informed Care model for children who were looked after within residential care in Scotland (2006)
  • Have run a clinic for clients with complex trauma and dissociative disorders in Scotland since 2008

From this range of experiences the concept of Change For Good: Centres for Attachment, Trauma and Dissociation began to emerge.

Professional training

My initial 4 years training as a Psychotherapist which began in 1998 was in Hypno-psychotherapy (DHP) this followed on form my 4 years Honours Degree in Psychology (BSc Hons Psychol). This lead to my UKCP registration as a Psychotherapist and membership of the Institute of contemporary psychotherapy and also now as a registered Child Psychotherapist ( UKCP registration page ).

Experience and Expertise

My areas of expertise are those related to the impact of 'Adverse Childhood Experiences' (trauma, abuse and neglect). I have focused my post qualifying training on areas relating to the treatment of trauma syndrome and have become fully trained in the assessment and treatment of attachment, trauma and dissociative disorders.

Over the past 10 years I have frequently presented both in the UK and internationally on these areas at professional conferences and sought to increase the understanding in the professional field around what works and have published various articles.

I am also a member of the training faculty of the International Society for the treatment of Trauma and Dissociation and deliver trainings for professionals and provide supervision for those supporting those with complex trauma diagnosis.
